“STEM is an educational program developed to prepare primary and secondary students for college and graduate study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In addition to subject-specific learning, STEM aims to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning, and collaboration skills.”
Those of you who either know me personally or heard me speak during radio & TV interviews, know that I am a strong proponent of education. Between 1973 – 1978, I worked for the School District of Philadelphia. One of my assignments was to teach reading to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders under the Title I program. This experience caused my heart to grow fond of teaching and helping young people learn how to be exceptional human beings. I’ve since engaged myself in many different programs, organizations, and events to encourage young people how to be important citizens to themselves, to their families, within their community, and/or wherever they may go in the world.
Just 19 days ago, Larry Braggs (Larry Braggs) and I brightened the lives of seven (7) young brass students from Dulles High School by giving them the opportunity to perform with us on stage at the Sugar Land Auditorium. Parents thanked us for allowing their kids to receive such an opportunity, and told us how sure they were that this was an experience their kids would never forget. This upcoming “Bach 2 Soul” concert in May will culminate five (5) months of video presentations of the Arts by World-renowned concert pianist Francesco Attesti (http://www.attesti.com) and yours truly for South Union Community Development Corporation (South Union CDC) STEM students ages 8 through 18. These presentations illustrate “The Art and Science of Piano and Organ”. Two more presentations are scheduled to take place this month (February) and March.
Mariam Haddad of Performance English, LLC (https://performance-english.com) and Efrem Jernigan, President of South Union Community Development Corporation are responsible for bringing Francesco Attesti from Italy to perform the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach. I will coordinate a Jazz improvisation of these same Bach compositions with Francesco. Mariam Haddad (concert pianist and vocalist, trained in both Opera and classical music) will entertain guests with her own performance.
To be involved with this program that will truly enhance the hearts and minds of the young Houstonian students, friends, and families who will attend this concert and may have never experienced Classical music up close and personal before, is an experience I will never forget and one that I hope every student who attends will appreciate and grow from.
Please support this program and these young people by attending this concert: Bach 2 Soul_Eventbrite Tickets.
If you are unable to attend, please support this program by your gift donation to the South Union Community Development Corporation (South Union CDC).
